In light of the first Canuck loss in this year’s
playoffs, “painful exhale” I wanted to discuss social media. Earlier in class
we discussed shutting down social media in order to help police protect the
city from mayhem.
I believe that cutting down on people’s
right to communicate is against free speech. However, I can see how something
like this would help the greater good of Vancouver, its residents, and all the
visitors watching the game.
IF there was to be any sort of rioting during this year’s playoffs I agree
that the police should have the authority to black out social media for the
evening, or even a couple of hours. People can still make phone calls if they
need to find out where not to go. However via phone calls you generally can
only talk to one person at a time. Social media would allow for multiple
persons to view what you have posted in an instant and I believe this is where
the true threat lies.
With that being said happy playoffs Canucks
fans! There won’t be any riots this year, because Canucks are going to win!
