Manage your own Social Media!

I found this article on the entrepenuer.com about managing social media when it comes to your business.  I thought it was a really interesting read, especially for our class, because many of us are looking to be entrepreneurs in the future.
The author of this article, Mikal E. Belicove, says that there is a trend for entrepreneurs to use contract communication strategists to help them with their social media, but he suggests that it is actually better for businesses to do it themselves.
The four reasons he lists are as follows,
1.       No one knows your business like you
2.       Your business is fluid and dynamic, not stationary and static
3.       Your staff is accountable to you, the communication strategist are not
4.       Someone in-house likely has more passion for your brand then a communication strategist will
As a future entrepreneur (hopefully), I found this article really interesting.  Many companies (including one I used to work at) outsource their social media needs to outside sources. There may be many issues with this because it is harder to communicate to an outside contractor what exactly you want, because they do not completely understand your business. It is also much less costly to use your own employees because they will understand the brand the better and also, because change happens so quickly in a business, quick adaption will be made.
