Will People Ever Understand Each Other?

I’m an HR student.  This semester I’m taking Human Relations in Organizations.  For those of you who have not taken it the class involves a lot of audience analysis.  Part of the class focus is on the following:

• Trying to determine the thoughts and feelings of others
• How you use this information to communicate effectively
• How to prepare yourself for talking to people in various situations (facilitation, conciliation, workshops)

While doing research for one of the class’s major assignments I can across a satirical article about the ability of people to understand each other.  The article is from cracked.com and is called Four Reasons Humans Will Never Understand Each Other.  

The article lists the following reasons:

1. We make bad guys into cartoons
2. We treat other people like aliens/robots
3. We put ourselves in other people’s shoes
4. We thinking trying to understand someone is the same as siding with them

I found the article chuckle-worthy and while it was satirical there were a couple of interesting points made.  It pokes fun at a lot of the clichés that are thrown around when we are trying to relate to one another.  If you’d like to take a look at it the link is below.
