Using Social Media To Find A Job

Hi Everyone,

I came along this infographic while searching the web for interesting topics to blog about. The infographic was posted my MBAOnline.com and provides statistics on how many people are using the social media to search for jobs, in what ways people are using the social media to find jobs and how effective social media is at finding new jobs.

The article attached to the infographic has provided highlights, which are shown in the bulleted list below.

Highlights of the Infographic:
  • 16% of employees found their current job using social media (up from 11% in 2010).
  • 90% of those seeking jobs have a social media profile.
  • Over 36 million Americans say they landed their job by using either Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
  • 50% of job hunters last year used Facebook to look for a job.
  • A higher percentage of males use social media for job hunting than females.
  • Jobs found on LinkedIn pay significantly higher than those found on Facebook or Twitter.
The infographic also uses the term "Super Social Seekers," which describes those job seekers with more than 150 contacts on a given network.

The article also gives tips for "Super Social Seekers" listed below,
  1. Facebook (Post Notes): Notes stay in friends feeds longer than status updates. Use them to describe your situation and job interests
  2. Twitter (Follow Companies & Job Feeds): Follow companies you'd like to work for, as well as their employees. Reach out to them and inquire about jobs.
  3. LinkedIn (Use a Profile Picture That You Use On Multiple Sites): Using one photo helps you seem consistent and memorable.

The infographic was a little to large to attach to this post, you can visit the website below to take a look at the full infographic.

  2. The traditional way of evaluating a job applicant is through their resume, but now, companies are taking advantage of the advent of social media, as they perform web searches, learn more about the applicants, and examine their profiles. In that case, jobseekers must also learn how to manage their social media accounts, because today, companies think that it highly reflects on the applicant’s reputation, and their personal image. Well, those listed above are simple but helpful tips that will give yourself an edge to your career! :D
