CBC, we know it as an all Canadian channel that broadcasts Canadian content. While sometimes the content can be a little boring it is still a staple in many homes. However, having started as a private radio station back in the 1920’s, it has grown to be a prominent feature in Canadian culture. In the article listed below, the federal government has cut their funding by $115 million spread over the next three years. While it’s only a portion of their actual federal budget it has created a significant effect on their production; because of this reduction they have to cut 800 jobs in the next few years. “Across Canada, 650 full-time CBC media jobs will be eliminated, including 475 this fiscal year, a further 150 jobs in the 2013-2014 fiscal year and the rest the year after.” I had no idea that CBC received over $1 billion in federal funding. While the job cuts seem drastic and harsh, I can understand why they are essential with the funding reduction.
