Four Steps to Building a Strategic Communications Capability

This is a blog post by Gerogia Everse. She gives tips about how a business can create an effective communications plan with a team. As she points out, it is important to ensure that messaging from a company is inline and consistent with previous messaging and the company values.
While the tips and steps are all useful and I strongly recommend you read them, I wanted to touch on my favourite excerpt from this post.  It actually comes right at the beginning:
Many organizations view their communication teams as a service resource or as process enablers. Instead, communications should be viewed as a strategic imperative for high performance and growth.
I think the quote really emphasizes the power of communication. Many may view communication merely as a tool to get a message or idea across. Communication is not a tool though. Rather, communication (if completed and planned strategically) is a component of the message or idea itself.
