Here are a few suggestions for creating social media for employers:
- Google yourself, make sure you like what shows up, if you don't delete or revise it.
- Have a searchable presence on the web - you don't want the employer to think you live under a rock.
- Have a Facebook account - have information such as education/work/volunteer public so a potential employer can see it. Delete embarrassing/inappropriate photos or make them private.
- Have a LinkedIn account - keep it up to date.
- Mention the link to your website/blog or other channels in your resume.
Some great points Saima! To add to your list, I recommend using a third party website like "www.about.me" to be used as a central hub to all your social media platforms.
ReplyDeleteWhat is "www.about.me"?
This is a free service that lets an individual create a unique, personalized description about them, which is put onto a unique webpage. Aside from a personal write-up describing your interests and a little about you, the website allows users to add multiple social media platform icons that link to your own personal accounts.
Another feature lets you upload a cover picture that can be used to take up the entirety of the page. This adds another personal touch, which can make your webpage more impactful and engaging. A personalized URL can be chosen for a users webpage. The user then can post this URL on the Internet and share it with whomever they would like.
This is a great tool to share with a current or potential employer! The webpage can give a good indication of an individual’s character and if the employer would like more information, they can easily check out the individual’s social media platforms.
